Dating back to 1991, this USAID contract is UD's oldest overseas international training and education program. Originally established as a Management Training and Economics Education Program (MTEEP), by 1996 it had evolved into a Firm Level Assistance Group (FLAG), whose technical assistance model was later applied in Croatia, Montenegro, and Serbia. Ongoing activities in Bulgaria include:
- professional training in the areas of accounting, business planning, financial management and analysis
- the facilitation of finance for Bulgarian companies by working with them and local banks to support efforts to tap into existing facilities such as the Micro Enterprise and Small Business Loan Portfolio Guarantee. UD faculty, particularly in the College of Business and Economics, continue to be involved in the training and technical assistance provided through this program
In May 2002 the UD Bulgaria grant was renewed for another 18 months. The program currently maintains offices and staff in Sofia, Bulgaria.
