CIMBA, Italy Undergraduate Business Program

Program Overview

The Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, in partnership with more than 30 other accredited public universities comprising the Consortium of Universities for International Study, offers students the opportunity to study abroad in Paderno del Grappa, Italy while taking business courses during the fall or spring semesters. Established in 1985, CIMBA offered its first semester program for undergraduate students in 2000 and now sends 700 students to Italy every year.

General Info / Student Life

The Program: CIMBA, the Consortium's affiliate organization in Italy , offers undergraduate programs in Paderna del Grappa , Italy , a small community 45 km north of Venice . The CIMBA campus includes classrooms, cafeteria, residence halls, computer labs, and modern athletic facilities.

The program's academic offerings go beyond traditional classroom content. Seminars in European culture, critical thinking, international relations and the European Union are integral components of the program. Additionally, guest speakers and company visits provide students with opportunities to meet international business leaders.

Language: Classes are taught in English by professors from the United States and around the world. You will receive credit for the courses from the credit-granting institution for the Consortium, the University of Iowa . Courses completed with a grade of “C” or better will transfer back to UD, where they can be used to satisfy business requirements and/or electives.

Calendar : Fall semester runs early-September through early December. Applications for Fall semester are due April 15. Spring semester runs mid January through mid April. Applications for Spring semester are due October 15.

Visas and Passports: Both are required for U.S. citizens. Contact the Italian consulate that has jurisdiction over your permanent place of residence. You should also review the consulate's website for a list of documents you are required to present to obtain your student visa. At a minimum, these will include: (1) an acceptance letter from CIMBA, (2) proof of medical insurance, (3) a notarized guarantee of financial resources (from your parents or from your bank), (4) your passport (valid at least 6 months after the date you return), (5) separate passport photographs. Remember to make all necessary photocopies before going to the consulate.

Transportation: A shuttle is available on the weekends and during breaks to transport students to the train station. Italian and other European trains are reliable, comfortable, reasonably priced and convenient.

Housing: Students are housed in residence halls in either single or double rooms. Most rooms have a private bath, bed, desk and closet.

Courses: CIMBA program courses are taught in English and can vary from semester to semester. The course offerings include introductory business courses as well as electives in Finance, Marketing, and Management. Business students may take up to two upper- division courses in their major at CIMBA.

Costs: Students pay all fees directly to CIMBA. They do not pay a deposit or program fee to the Center for International Studies, or tuition to the University of Delaware. The CIMBA program fee covers tuition for up to 18 credits, housing, meal package (3 meals daily during regular class days and non-travel weekends), rental fee for books and materials, bus pass (covers several excursions during the semester as well as transportation to and from the train station for travel breaks), housekeeping & linen and towel fee, laundry tokens, and program-related excursions.
