Study Abroad - Programs
Summer 2004
Ireland ENGL
June 28, 2004 - July 25, 2004

Program Overview

Ireland's traditions-especially its artistic and musical heritage-are prominent in Dublin, even as the pace of social and economic change increases in Ireland. Dublin is among Europe's best-known centers for technology, but alongside the silicon chips are 1,000 years of history at your disposal: castles, churches, museums, Medieval and Georgian architecture, and a number of historical and archeological sites. You'll also have the chance to attend plays, musical performances and social events at University College, Dublin (UCD).

The program will have a special emphasis on drama. For two-and-a-half weeks, you'll stay at UCD, attending informal classes; daily lectures and class excursions will be supplemented by lectures and discussions with Irish professors and artists. You'll also take trips to see performances and excursions to historical sites in and around Dublin. Free weekends will allow for individual activities, so you can explore the city on your own. After Dublin, it's into the west-a journey through the heart of Ireland, to spend the program's final days at the annual Galway Arts Festival, which features major playwrights, actors and musicians.

Students will stay in residence hall on the UCD campus. On the trip west, you'll stay in hotels.
