Study Abroad - Programs
Winter 2005
Ireland EDUC
January 1, 2005 - February 1, 2005

Please note that this program is highly competitive and will accept only a limited number of applicants.

Program Overview

Study Education and Adolescent Development in Ireland the land of leprechauns, castles, and blarney. This beautiful country with its friendly people, green pastures, active nightlife and rich literary tradition will be the site of this excursion to the Emerald Isle.

Our first stop is the southern coastal town of Cork, Ireland’s second largest city, where we will visit Irish schools as we learn about adolescent development. Then, we will explore Waterford City, Ireland’s oldest city, and visit its most popular attraction the Waterford Glass Factory. Next on the agenda is Dublin, home to many of Ireland’s literary giants, where we will see the magnificent Book of Kells, and where we will learn about teacher education programs in this country. Then we travel up to the north of Ireland to find out how conflict resolution is taught to adolescents in Northern Ireland. Here we will visit the famous Giant’s Causeway. We will then move on to the western coast of Galway, center of Irish culture, where English-Gaelic issues will be a focus of study in the schools. On our way back to Cork, we will visit the Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry, and Blarney Castle. We will conclude our education by sharing our experience with teacher education students at the University of Cork.

Students reside in double rooms in hotels with breakfasts provided in the Program Fee.

Whether you’re interested in Irish school culture, adolescent development or exploring a country rich in tradition and known for its friendly people and convivial atmosphere, the Winter/Summer Session in Ireland is your chance to experience Eire at its best.

Please note: preference will be given to majors in Elementary Education.
