Program Overview
Study Spanish in Granada, one of the most beautiful cities in the region of Andalusia in southern Spain. Surrounded by Spain's mightiest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and by fertile agricultural plains, Granada has spectacular natural beauty. You'll study the language, culture and history of Spain in the shadow of Granada's most famous landmark - the Alhambra, the Moorish fortress-palace that overlooks the city. The Universidad de Granada, founded in the 16th century, will host the winter program.
Upon its arrival in Spain, the Delaware group spends several days touring in and around the bustling capital city of Madrid, visiting the famous Palacio Real and the Prado museum, and taking day-trips to the nearby medieval cities of Segovia and Toledo, and to the monastery of El Escorial. During the course of the program, weekends are scheduled in the Andalusian cities of Cordoba and Seville and at the famous "Costa del Sol." The group also typically takes day-trips to sites in and around Granada, such as the Alhambra and the Cartuja Monastery.
Accommodations: Students will reside in private Spanish homes, either singly or in pairs. Bedding and linens are provided, as well as all meals.
About the LIFE Program: LIFE draws freshmen together in the classroom as well as the dorm, and provides faculty and peer mentorship in both spheres. Classes are linked by an academic theme; co-curricular activities such as field trips, speakers and films are offered. LIFE students also develop a collaborative project that helps connect their academic study with out-of-class experiences.
Please note: special scholarship funding is available for this program. LIFE Study Abroad Scholarships are intended to fund academically talented, 1st semester freshmen UD students who otherwise would not be able to afford to study abroad. Financial need will be determined by the Office of Financial Aid, so make sure that you have a current FAFSA form on-file.
