Program Overview
Science claims to be universal. Is that really true? The program will explore this question in Argentina, historically South America’s most scientifically active country.
We will visit major research establishments, some long established ones such as the Observatorio Astronomico in Cordoba and the Centro Atomico in Bariloche, but also the recently created international observatory for cosmic rays in Malargue. Our travels will give us the opportunity to explore Argentina in all its facets. It includes hikes in the Sierras and cycling in Mendoza, and a trip up the Uspallata pass to the border of Chile.
We will start in the historic city of Cordoba at the foot of the Central Sierras and subsequently make our way along the Andes to Bariloche in the Patagonian Lake District. At the end of the program we will return to Buenos Aires from where participants can strike out on their own to the Iguazu Falls on Argentina's northern border with Brazil, enjoy city life, or simply go to the beach.
Accommodations will be provided in conveniently located hotels or apartments. Meals are included during travel and on excursions. In Cordoba and Bariloche the participants will be responsible for most of their own meals.
Please note: The first 12 students to be accepted will each receive a $500 scholarship towards the final installment of the program fee from the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Additional, need-based scholarships are also available from the Department. Applicants who complete the requirements for the CFIS Scholarship will automatically be considered for departmental scholarships on a rolling basis.
UD students pay all program fee deposits by direct bank transfer via this website: http://www.udel.edu/studyabroadpayments. Non-UD students should send a check, payable to the University of Delaware, to CFIS, Elliott Hall, 26 East Main Street, Newark, DE 19716. Credit card payments are not accepted.
