Study Abroad - Programs
Winter 2006
Australia / N. Zealand / Fiji HRIM
January 2, 2006 - February 3, 2006

Program Overview

Spend your 2006 winter session studying hospitality and tourism "Down Under." Our program will take you to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji where you will learn about the technological, socio-cultural and environmental issues affecting the development and management of hotels and resorts. Information technology management will be our primary focus as we visit Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, Australia.

You will gain insight into the issues faced by international hotel operations in utilizing information technology for marketing and operational purposes. At the same time, we will use our visits to some operations in Australia to underscore the importance of sustainable tourism. This concern about eco-tourism will continue on our stops on both the north and south islands of New Zealand, where you will see some of that country's widely varying and spectacular landscapes.

Finally, with their diverse cultures and lifestyles, all three of our stops present an ideal setting to study the relationship between service management and culture. You will have the opportunity in particular to learn about the customs and foods of Australia's Aboriginals and New Zealand's Maori.

Depending on the location, you will stay in a mixture of hotels, resorts, and dormitories. Some meals will be provided.
