Program Overview
China: 5,000 years of history and culture
Study Chinese language, culture, history and music while visiting China’s major historical and modern wonders. On this learning adventure, you’ll study with some of China’s most prestigious educators and make rewarding connections with the locals through campus-living, field trips to world famous attractions as well as non-tourist sites, and many other activities.
While in China, you will stay at Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai and visit 2 other cities. You will cover major historical sites such as: The Forbidden City, the Imperial Summer Palace, the Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, and the Old Hu Tong (back alleys) in Beijing; the famous Terracotta Soldiers, remains of a Tang Dynasty Palace, and Wild Goose Pagodas in Xi'an; the Bund as well as the Old City of Shanghai; the beautiful Suzhou Gardens in "silk town" Suzhou; and the historic "water-bornes" town of ZhouZhuang.
You will sample life on the campus of a premier Chinese university, meet its students and visit its attaching elementary and high schools. You will also experience and study Chinese culture by attending performances such as the Peking Opera, traditional Chinese music concert, Tang court dancing, various acrobat shows as well as classes in calligraphy, brush painting and seminars and exhibitions in martial arts.
During free time, you'll be able to explore the neighborhoods of Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai, and meet ordinary Chinese in all walks of life.
