Study Abroad - Programs
Fall 2009
London, England
August 31, 2009 - December 13, 2009

Program Overview

London is a cosmopolitan and dynamic European capital with over 2000 years of history. In this program, the city is your classroom with past excursions including Henry VIIi's palace at Hampton Court, world-class theatre productions, Shakespeare's Globe, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey and London's east end. All courses in the London Semester make use of the city's outstanding museums and galleries.

The London Centre is based in a 200 year old Georgian house located in the Bloomsbury neighbourhood which is the centre of London academic life. Situated next door to the Charles Dickens Museum, the center is a 10 minute walk from the University of London, University College London and the British Library. All the popular attractions of London are within easy reach including the National Gallery, British Museum, Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral and the fabulous city parks and markets.

The London Program's resident faculty, all recognized experts in their field, with an in-depth knowledge of the city, set this Study Abroad experience apart. The diverse course offerings enable students to earn credits in many disciplines.

During mid term break, students have the opportunity to travel within the UK and the rest of Europe taking advantage of London's transport links including 5 airports and the Eurostar trains to Paris and Brussels.

The program includes a weekend trip to Bath and Stonehenge and previous day trips have included visits to Oxford, Cambridge and Canterbury.

The London Centre staff have been running a successful semester program for over 10 years.

Accommodations: Students will be housed in double/triple rooms in furnished flats (apartments) with kitchens (meals are not included in the program fee). Flats are in enviable locations with excellent transportation links to the rest of London and beyond.

Ambassador Associates: Do you have questions about daily life on this program (re: free time, housing, classes, etc.)? Ask one of our Ambassador Associates, a student currently studying on this program. Send your questions/concerns to Karen Lundin (klundin@udel.edu), with the words "Ambassador Associate" in the subject line. Your email will be forwarded to a student at the overseas site, and that student will respond directly to you.

Facebook: Join the "University of Delaware London Semester" group on Facebook to chat with past/current participants and other interested students. Search for the profile of "Raymond Kirkbride," the founder of study abroad at UD, see his list of groups, and add yourself as a member.
