Program Overview

Experience an opportunity for personal contact through a contextual understanding of the history, the people, and some of the traditions of Australians - an eclectic mix of individuals from over 140 nations - and Hawaiians, a traditional Polynesian culture. You will have a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the lifestyles, habitats, entertainment and hospitality of several cultures including the Aboriginal people and many of the Polynesian villages represented in Hawaii during this program.

In Oahu Hawaii, we will take a sentimental journey through time, and embrace the very sights and sounds of Pearl Harbor as we examine the role of the nurse in wartime on the Hawaii military bases during an era that changed the course of history forever. In addition, we will explore the current island healthcare system and compare women’s health issues and cultural considerations to those of Australian women. Through observations, fieldwork, cultural experiences, and more, students will explore women's health issues from a global perspective while evaluating and improving their own health issues in Oahu, Sydney, and Cairns. Enjoy the best of Australian and Hawaii's rich multicultural societies.

Classes will meet in every city visited. Hotel housing in Oahu, Sydney, and Cairns is planned with 10-12 meals included. Informal learning through fieldwork and guided experiences will occur daily in a variety of planned excursions.
