Program Overview

This program offers a four-week academic and cultural experience in Paris and Provence, France, to examine family and sexuality issues from a multicultural perspective and to survey French art, architecture, language, culture and history. Students will explore the Parisian and Provencal socio-cultural environments and interview people to compare both urban and rural French family patterns and sexuality issues with those of American families. The two courses being offered are HDFS 202: Foundations of Family Studies and HDFS 401: Foundations of Human Sexuality (crosslisted with WOMS 401 and HESC 401.) If students have already had either of these courses, they can take an independent studies course HDFS 366.

Excursions will include visits to community service organizations to see first-hand how they are making an impact on people’s lives. We will also visit historically and culturally important sites in Paris and Provence.

Students will live in dormitory or hotel (with breakfast) in Paris and with French families in Provence (where breakfast and dinner are included.)
