Program Overview
Travel to the Middle East, Africa, and Asia for a unique leadership-focused around-the-world experience.
We will get a firsthand understanding of what defines culture and how culture impacts leaders and the leadership process. Questions we will address: How does culture define how people interact? Does one leadership style work in all cultures? Are leaders respected in the countries we visit?
Students will complete a comparative policy analysis to explore how leaders in different counties and cultures address consumer problems and issues. Research topics are dependent on the interest of the students. A sampling of past topics include: transportation safety, worker safety, child labor standards, women in politics, micro-financing, education, housing, waste management, sex education, and drinkable water.
Although the full itinerary is currently being planned, we anticipate studying in the following locations and having our cultural experience supplemented by the listed excursions – many of which are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites*:
In Cairo, Egypt we will take a day to understand the historical perspective of the Pyramids* and the Sphinx*
In Ethiopia, we start in the capital city of Addis Ababa before we take a six day exploration by four-wheel drive vehicle to the South Omo Valley.*
Our Delhi, India excursions include visits to the Lotus Temple and to Gandhi’s Memorial, as well as the Taj Mahal* in Agra, India
Our Bangkok, Thailand experience includes tours of various Buddhist temples, the Damnoen Saduak floating market, the Bridge over the River Kwai, and an overnight stay on the Jungle River Rafts.
In major cities, we will be residing in economy hotels within walking distance of restaurants. We will be camping three nights in Ethiopia’s South Omo Valley (all camping gear is provided). Program fee includes excursions listed as well as all breakfasts and approximately 8 group lunches or dinners.
