Program Overview

Learn how to photograph the natural world while backpacking across national parks in British Columbia, follow a "leave no trace" philosophy while learning how to use advanced digital technology in the field. A hands-on photographic/web design opportunity.

Based at the University of British Columbia, students will explore and photograph sites in the Canadian Rocky Mountains -i.e. high mountain lakes, glaciers, and the abundant wildlife. The extended backpacking segment of this program will introduce participants to the temperate rainforests and coastal ecology of the Pacific Northwest.

When not on backpacking expeditions, students will reside in resident halls, multiple occupancy and outfitted with internet hook-up at the University of British Columbia.

A graded final project will be required. The project will be a website designed and published by each student using the individual's digital images.

Program suitable for, but not limited to College of Agriculture and Natural Resource students interested in digital nature photography and web design. For students in the Agriculture and Natural Resources college, this program fulfills a required computer course.
