Program Overview

Australia boasts significant enriching opportunities both in photography and communication media. On this program you'll develop an understanding of this relationship during our time in Sydney and Melbourne. Our city locations provide many occasions to photograph the urban scene and historically important regions. In addition to shooting photographs, we値l visit art museums bringing you face to face with professional photo works to advance your perception of photographic concepts.

Australian broadcasting and media will come alive as a resource for understanding mass communication and culture from Australia to around the world. You値l take in the view of Sydney from the top of the Harbor Bridge and you値l shoot the natural world in the Blue Mountains and Jenolan Caves. In your free time ride the ferries and railways to regional sites and many beaches. The entire month of January features cultural and national festivities leading up to Australia Day on January 26. The four day Australia Day weekend is open for you to travel and sightsee in Australia or New Zealand.

You値l be housed in multiple-occupancy apartments. A few lunches and dinners are included in the program fee. During the fall semester we値l meet for two classes on Sunday evenings to prepare for our adventures Down Under. This FYE program brings first year students together in the classroom as well as on excursions and provides faculty and peer mentorship in both spheres. The Peer Mentor accompanies the group to provide guidance and camaraderie as well as develop a collaborative project that helps connect academic study with out-of-class experiences in Australia. Only first year students may participate in FYE Australia.
