Study Abroad - Programs
Winter 2004
Australia/N.Zealand NURS/ENGL
January 2, 2003 - February 4, 2004

Please note that this program has an early application and first deposit deadline of June 23, 2003.

Program Overview

Study ethical issues related to health education, policies, and delivery practices, as well as an exploration of selected Australian and New Zealand writers of short fiction, while residing in one of the most culturally diverse and literate cities in the world: Melbourne, Australia. Experience an opportunity for personal contact through a contextual understanding of the history, the people, and some of the traditions of Australians - an eclectic mix of individuals from over 140 nations - and New Zealanders, whose total population is roughly equivalent to that of the city of Melbourne. Through observations, class and other experiences become familiar with the Australian and New Zealand national health systems. Discover unique flora and fauna found nowhere else in the world. Tour four major cities - Sydney, Melbourne, Christchurch, and Auckland. Enjoy the best of Australian and New Zealand music, drama, films and art. Explore the Australian beach culture and taste the foods of Australia and New Zealand's rich multicultural societies.

Formal classes will initially meet Monday through Friday at Trinity College in the University of Melbourne, where students will also be housed while in Australia, but informal learning - in the only country occupying an entire continent - will occur daily. Classes will reconvene in New Zealand, but ample opportunity will be given there for some exploration of both the southern and northern islands.
