The University: The MBA Institute's program consists principally of French, American and international business courses, with support from a strong liberal-arts program. The Institute prepares its graduates to work or study comfortably and efficiently on either side of the Atlantic .
Calendar : This program is available for the Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall semester runs early September through late December (just before the holidays). Applications for Fall are due April 15. The Spring Semester runs mid January through the end of May. Applications for Spring are due October 15.
Language: The MBA Institute has two working languages, French and English. Roughly half the courses are taught in each language, the choice depending on the subject matter and on the professor's mother tongue . Exchange courses are all taught in English.
Visas and Passports: Both are required. Contact the French consulate that has jurisdiction over your permanent place of residence. You should also review the consulate's website for a list of documents you are required to present to obtain your student visa. At a minimum, these will include: (1) a letter from the MBA Institute, (2) proof of medical insurance, (3) a notarized guarantee of financial resources (from your parents or from your bank), (4) your passport (valid at least 6 months after the date you return), (5) separate passport photographs. Remember to make all necessary photocopies before going to the consulate.
Transportation: Paris has an extensive, efficient subway, called the Métro. You can buy single tickets, packets of ten tickets, an unlimited weekly ticket, an unlimited monthly ticket or an unlimited yearly ticket. Paris also has an extensive bus system, which uses the same tickets as the Métro. If you anticipate doing a lot of European travel you should consider purchasing a Eurail pass prior to your trip.
Housing: The MBA Institute does not own or operate dormitories, but the program coordinators will assist you in locating an apartment.
Courses: Exchange program courses are taught in English and can vary from semester to semester. Most students enroll in 3-4 business courses and 1-2 French Language or Culture courses. The course offerings include introductory business courses as well as electives in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Marketing, and Management. Business students may take up to two upper-division courses in their major at the MBA Institute.
Costs: Students pay their regular undergraduate full-time tuition to the University of Delaware via normal UD billing and payment procedures; they do not pay on-campus housing or meal plan. Students do not pay a deposit or program fee to the Center for International Studies. Any financial aid or scholarships that normally apply to tuition will continue to apply.
Students may expect to spend between €1,100 and €1,500 per month in living expenses which includes rent, utilities, telephone service, local transportation, and groceries. All travel expenses are the responsibility of the student. Books and materials average €200.
Requirements
University of Delaware students who are sophomores or juniors majoring in Economics, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Operations Management, International Business or Finance are eligible to apply. A minimum overall GPA of 2.8 is required.
Students apply to the MBA Institute through the Advising Office in the Lerner College of Business and Economics.
