The University encourages students to apply for study abroad scholarships. University funding is available for full-time, matriculated, undergraduate University of Delaware students through three scholarship programs. Global Citizenship Awards (formerly Starr Scholarships) of $1000 to $4000 + are awarded based on the applicant’s financial need, academic merit, quality of essay, recommendation from a professor, activities/awards, number of college credits completed and a comprehensive judicial review. Global Scholars Awards (formerly CFIS Scholarships) of $300 to $800 are awarded based on the applicant's academic merit, quality of essay, recommendation from a professor, activities/awards, financial need and a comprehensive judicial review. FYE Study Abroad Scholarships of $300 to $4,000 are intended to fund academically talented, 1st semester freshmen UD students who otherwise would not be able to afford to study abroad. FYE awards are based on the applicant’s financial need, academic merit, quality of essay, recommendation from a high school teacher/counselor, 1st semester status, and a comprehensive judicial review. Students complete the same materials for all scholarship award competitions; although the deadlines differ (Global Citizenship Award materials are due earlier). If you receive a Global Citizenship Award, Global Scholars Award or FYE Study Abroad Scholarship, and for some reason are dismissed from your program due to improper conduct, you will be required to repay your scholarship award in full. Complete scholarship details can be found below:
UD study abroad applicants are also welcome to apply for funding from sources outside of CFIS and the University. A list of other scholarship opportunities is available here.
