Note: This program requires the even exchange of students between UD and the partner institution abroad. Therefore the number of exchange spots available to outbound UD students is dependent on the number of inbound students sent to UD by the partner instiution. If parity is not achieved, the exchange cannot take place.

All applicants must have a valid passport by the program’s application deadline. Your passport’s expiration date must be more than six months after the program ends. If you do not have a current passport, apply through the U.S. State Department. It takes an average of 10-13 weeks (3-4 months) to process a passport.
Traveling and studying abroad during a global pandemic poses new challenges and requires accepting a higher level of uncertainty than in the past. Students who choose to study abroad at this time must be prepared to adapt to the evolving situation and must take responsibility to act in accordance with the rules, regulations, and recommendations of UD, their program leadership, and legal authorities of their home and host country. Due to the rapidly changing and unpredictable global and local response to COVID-19, these rules, regulations and recommendations are subject to change at any time.
The University will continue to monitor the ongoing situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) as we approach the departure date for this program. Please reach out to your program coordinator or faculty director with questions and continue to monitor the UD coronavirus webpage for updates. The School of Public Policy and Administration in partnership with the Department of Urban Administration at the University of Seoul offers students interested in Public Policy and Administration the opportunity to study abroad in Seoul, South Korea, for one semester. Located in Dongdaemun-Gu near central Seoul, the University of Seoul is a comprehensive, doctorate-granting research university supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Seoul, with a population of 10 million, is the capital of South Korea and one of the world's leading global cities.
Under the terms of the agreement between UD and UoS, one student from each institution may be exchanged per semester. However, "If there is an imbalance of interested and qualified students those students not benefiting from the reciprocal agreement may be permitted to register at the host university provided that they pay tuition and fees to the host university and meet the host university's admission standards."
General Info / Student Life
The University: With more than 10,000 students enrolled, the University of Seoul comprises seven undergraduate colleges and almost 90 fields of study in the Graduate School. It offers courses of study in eight schools and twenty seven departments. Founded in 1918 as Kyung Sung Public Agricultural College, UoS acquired its current name and responsibility for being a pre-eminent international institution for urban sciences in 1997. As a public institution funded and supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the University of Seoul is committed to addressing the social, regional, technological, and creative issues of the urbanized world. Language: Although its primary language is Korean, UoS offers a selection of courses in English. Most Korean college students speak English well, and Seoul is surprisingly easy to navigate for English speakers.
Calendar: Spring semester (the first semester of the Korean academic year) at UOS runs from March through June; orientation is scheduled for February 28, 2024. Fall semester runs from late August through mid-December; orientation is scheduled for August 31, 2024.
Visas and Passports: Both are required for U.S. citizens. In addition to your valid passport, you will need to secure a Student (D-2) visa before traveling to Seoul. Upon arrival at UoS, you will be guided through the process of obtaining the required Alien Registration Card.
Transportation: Seoul is served by an extensive and inexpensive system of subways, buses, and trains. Seoul's metro (subway) system is particularly easy to navigate for English speakers: signage, maps, and announcements are in English as well as Korean. Taxi service is also very good and inexpensive in Seoul. South Korea has an extensive and efficient inter-city train network you use can for trips beyond Seoul.
Housing: It is unlikely that on-campus housing will be available. Contact the appropriate IICE staff person (email: exchangein@uos.ac.kr) for current recommendations for off-campus housing near campus or in downtown Seoul. All students are required to stay in program sponsored housing, independent housing arrangements are not allowed by UD or the program partners. |

| ACCESSIBILITY: Participants with disabilities should know that accessibility and accommodation in some program locations may differ from the United States. Transit systems and legacy building construction practices may not meet U.S. accessibility standards, and alternative access to public transportation, buildings, or public sites cannot be guaranteed. But UD students with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to study abroad. Review these questions with the Office of Disability Support Services to determine whether this program can meet your accommodation needs. |

All students must enroll in the 0-credit course UNIV 550 (placeholder for this travel study experience) and UNIV 372 (Discovery Learning marker).
Each semester UOS offers a number of courses taught in English, as well as instruction in Korean language and culture for English speakers. Exchange students may enroll for up to 20 credits at UOS (15 credits is the recommended course load). Courses completed with the equivalent grade of “C-” or better will transfer back to UD.
Before committing to the program students are encouraged to meet with their assistant dean and to complete the appropriate forms through UD’s Registrar’s Office to ensure that credits earned on the program will facilitate their progress towards graduation. It is the student's responsibility to secure the necessary UD transfer credit permissions prior to departure according to UD's standard transfer credit procedure, and to have an official transcript from the host institution sent to UD upon the conclusion of the exchange semester. |

Students must submit the online application by the deadline, as well as one recommendation submitted online by a UD faculty member.
After being accepted into the exchange by the Center for Global Programs and Services, students will apply directly to UoS via its online application for exchange students. UoS requires that you have scanned copies of your official academic transcript, your passport, and a recent photo. |

How much does it cost?.

When and how do I pay?
If you are offered acceptance to the program, you will have 3 days to withdraw without financial penalty. After the 3 days have passed, you will be officially accepted to the program, and CGPS will post the Tuition/Fees to your UD student account.
- An initial payment of $0.00 will be due in mid-October.
- The balance of the Tuition/Fees will be due in early January.
- Payments are submitted through My Finances in UDSIS.
- All charges, once posted to your account, are considered non-refundable.

Students pay their regular undergraduate full-time tuition to the University of Delaware via normal UD billing and payment procedures; they do not pay fees, on-campus housing, or meal plan. Students do not pay a deposit or program fee to the Institute for Global Studies. Students who receive financial aid or scholarships that normally apply to tuition or other on-campus costs should seek confirmation from Student Financial Services that these will continue to apply abroad.
In addition to housing (KRW 350,000 to 1,000,000 per month, or $300 to $850 USD), students may expect living expenses for food, local transportation, laundry, books, entertainment, and miscellaneous items to be about KRW 800,000 to 1,000,000 ($700 to $900 USD per month. All travel expenses are the responsibility of the student.
The University of Delaware’s differential charge for Engineering, Nursing and Business & Economics students does not apply to winter or summer session and is waived for students enrolled in semester- or year-long study abroad and exchange programs sponsored by the University. |
