Please review the CGPS COVID-19 Updates page before applying to a study abroad program.
All applicants must have a valid passport by the program’s application deadline. Your passport’s expiration date must be more than six months after the program ends. If you do not have a current passport, apply through the U.S. State Department. It takes an average of 8-11 weeks (2-3 months) to process a passport.
The University will continue to monitor the ongoing situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) as we approach the departure date for this program. Please reach out to your program coordinator or faculty director with questions and continue to monitor the UD coronavirus webpage for updates.
If UD decides to cancel a study abroad program, we will communicate directly with affected students. In this case, the University of Delaware will reimburse the cost of program fees and tuition.
Traveling and studying abroad during a global pandemic poses new challenges and requires accepting a higher level of uncertainty than in the past. Students who choose to study abroad at this time must be prepared to adapt to the evolving situation and must take responsibility to act in accordance with the rules, regulations, and recommendations of UD, their program leadership, and legal authorities of their home and host country. Due to the rapidly changing and unpredictable global and local response to COVID-19, these rules, regulations and recommendations are subject to change at any time. |

Study for a semester as part of your home institution's degree at The University of Queensland (UQ), one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions.

UQ’s 280,000 graduates are an engaged network of global alumni spanning more than 170 countries, and include approximately 15,400 PhDs. More than 55,000 current students, including more than 20,700 postgraduate students and approximately 20,300 international students from 145 countries, study across UQ’s three campuses in South East Queensland.

Where is UQ? UQ has three campuses in South East Queensland. Brisbane is the home of UQ’s St Lucia and Herston campuses, and the capital city of Queensland. Brisbane has a population of approximately 2.4 million and offers a relaxed and safe lifestyle, subtropical climate and vibrant culture.
Brisbane is fast becoming a hub in the Asia–Pacific for business, investment, major events and education, with World Heritage rainforests, mountain ranges and beaches on our doorstep.
Steps to enroll:
Students should submit an application in UD's Study Abroad database.
After the acceptance process from UD, students will be asked to make a deposit and ALSO submit an application directly on UQ's website.
Students will apply for visas on their own, which requires an acceptance letter from UQ.
Students will also apply for housing on their own, which may also require an acceptance letter from UQ.
Orientation week: July 15-19, 2024
Semester starts: July 22 and end November 16, 2024
Semester break: September 23 - 27, 2024.
Students make their own arrangements for housing and pay separately.

U.S. citizens are required to obtain a visitor subclass 500 visa (category Non-Award) in order to remain in Australia for more than 90 days. Students should budget approximately AUD710.00 for visa expenses.
The Program Fee does NOT include airfare to/from Australia, nor does it include airport transfer on the date of departure. The program officially begins when students arrive in Brisbane. Students will receive detailed travel instructions after acceptance, explaining how and where to purchase their plane ticket. See the Cost section below for estimate airfare. |

| ACCESSIBILITY: Participants with disabilities should know that accessibility and accommodation in some program locations may differ from the United States. Transit systems and legacy building construction practices may not meet U.S. accessibility standards, and alternative access to public transportation, buildings, or public sites cannot be guaranteed. But UD students with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to study abroad. All students must enroll in the 0-credit course UNIV 550 (placeholder for this travel study experience).
All University of Queensland (UQ) courses are taught in English, and offerings can vary from semester to semester. Students must take a minimum of 12 credit hours and courses must be for credit, not pass-fail. As a UD program, all UQ courses completed with a grade of C or better will transfer back to UD and be placed on a student’s UD transcript. UD's Registrars Office maintains a course equivalency matrix for UQ courses taken by UD students in the past (which transfer as courses from the University of Queensland and appear in the matrix list as INTL-SA.
This program is designed for students in biomedical engineering and requires a meeting with the program advisor, Julie Karand. Students who are not in biomedical engineering are required to meet with their academic advisor or assistant dean to ensure that credits earned on the program will facilitate their progress towards graduation. Students wishing to take courses that do not appear in the matrix must pursue transfer credit approval. It is the student's responsibility to secure the necessary UD transfer credit permissions prior to departure according to UD's standard transfer credit procedure, and to have an official transcript from the host institution sent to UD upon the conclusion of the semester abroad. |

Students pay UQ’s tuition (AUD 13710), international insurance (AUD 400) and a $350 UD study abroad admin fee to UD, not UQ. (The USD amount will depend on the exchange rate at the time of the payment).

Students do not pay UD tuition or any other UD fees. Financial aid and scholarships that normally apply to UD tuition and/or fees are usually applicable to the costs of the UQ program. However, some UD scholarships and tuition-based parental employment benefits may not be transferrable. Students receiving aid or scholarships or tuition-based benefits due to a parent's employment should consult with Student Financial Services regarding the applicability towards UQ costs.
In addition, students attending the UQ program are considered for study abroad scholarships offered by the Center for Global Programs & Services as part of their application to the Brisbane, Australia program.
The University of Delaware’s differential charge for Engineering, Nursing and Business & Economics students does not apply to winter or summer session and is waived for students enrolled in semester- or year-long study abroad and exchange programs sponsored by the University. |
