Samuel Johnson said, "When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life." Experience the world's most interesting city and study two of its most noteworthy products: The British novel and the British press.

You'll read Charles Dickens' classic London novel "Our Mutual Friend" and visit the very sites he wrote about, observing along the way how they have changed over 150 years. Another class will study the British press, from Rupert Murdoch's troubled tabloids to broadsheets like The Guardian and the Daily Telegraph; students will also interview Londoners and produce their own journalism for an online magazine.

The program will be based in the center of London, which you will criss-cross by Tube and quickly become familiar with. The class will take excursions to such sites as Oxford, Stonehenge, and Windsor. There will be ample free time for students to take their own short jaunts around the country and to the Continent.

Students will be housed in twin rooms in a hotel and will be responsible for their own meals.

This program is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the bustle and flow of London life as a resident, not a tourist. Guarantee: even after a month, you will not be tired of London.
