University of Delaware Institute for Global Studies Winter 2017: Cuba ART - microProgram Dates January 09, 2017 - January 30, 2017
This program is closed.
Program Overview This program is
highly competitive and will accept only a limited number of applicants. Interview appointments and acceptance decisions are at the discretion of the faculty director.
Based in Havana, you’ll interact with a variety of people as you study art, photography, history, and culture. In addition, you’ll learn about Spanish, African, Russian, and U.S. influences on music, religion, architecture, politics and history through visits to galleries, museums, music venues, and cultural sites. Walking the streets of Havana is a visual adventure. This winter session program includes a variety of excursions in Havana and includes a three-day trip to the spectacularly lush Vinales Valley in the center of the country.
Students reside in double rooms. You will spend 5 days in a hotel in Old Havana, then the remaining time in Havana in casas particular (private homes).
Whether you’re interested in Cuban history, art, your own photography or preserved 1950s U.S. cars, the Winter Session in Cuba is your chance to visit this fascinating country as relations with the U.S. improve and before the embargo is officially lifted, which will radically change everything.
For a closer look at the experience check out this slideshow from our 2015 Cuba program -

The course is open to any major, even non-UD students. No previous experience in art or photography is necessary.
The Program Fee covers housing, all program-related excursions, some meals and international medical insurance. Students will be housed in hotels and private homes, including breakfast most days, along with 1-2 group dinners. Students are responsible for the remainder of their meals.
The Program Fee does NOT include airfare to/from Cuba, nor airport transfers within the U.S. The program officially begins when students arrive in Cuba. Students will receive detailed travel instructions after acceptance, explaining how and where to purchase their plane ticket. See the Cost section below for estimate airfare. For this program, plane tickets have been reserved for the group, and students are strongly encouraged to purchase as part of the group reservation.
