Program Dates January 08, 2018 - January 26, 2018

Program Overview

There are few courses that integrate the study abroad experience, entrepreneurship, and internships all within the same course. Special Topics in Entrepreneurship in Barcelona, Spain, is one of those courses. Students will be working with hand-selected entrepreneurs in Barcelona to help them with marketing planning. Barcelona is a beautiful and vibrant city that attracts a great deal of travelers. This city has developed a strong ecosystem for start-ups and is considered one of the top three cities in entrepreneurship along with London and Berlin. Barcelona has a broad swath of business and technical schools, very high smartphone penetration, a system of transportation that is well-connected with the rest of the world, and a large number of travelers. Barcelona hosts the Mobile World Congress, which is one of the largest mobile technology conferences in the world. From a tourist perspective, students will enjoy the wonders of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, a large, beautiful Roman Catholic church in Barcelona; Park Guell, a well-known architectural destination; and other famous attractions. Based out of Barcelona, you'll interact with other students and entrepreneurs at the schools in Barcelona to learn about their markets and how to tailor products and service offerings to them. Students reside in apartments with kitchens, living rooms, and close access to the Metro system. Whether you are interested in art, literature, marketing, international business, or entrepreneurship, the Winter Session in Barcelona, Spain, will be your chance to work side-by-side with Spanish entrepreneurs as they put their products into the market.

The Program Fee includes accommodations in shared apartments in a centrally located building; a one day trip outside Barcelona, entrance to one or two networking events during the stay, cultural activities, Barcelona airport pick-up for those who arrive on the assigned day and time, a welcome meal and farewell dinner, and one unlimited metro & bus pass within Barcelona and international medical insurance.

The Program Fee does NOT include airfare to/from Europe, nor airport transfers within the U.S. The program officially begins when students arrive in Barcelona. Students will receive detailed travel instructions after acceptance, explaining how and where to purchase their plane ticket. See the Cost section below for estimate airfare. For this program, students will be given recommended flight itineraries for traveling together.

ACCESSIBILITY: Participants with disabilities should know that accessibility and accommodation in some program locations may differ from the United States. Transit systems and legacy building construction practices may not meet U.S. accessibility standards, and alternative access to public transportation, buildings, or public sites cannot be guaranteed. Review these questions with the Office of Disability Support Services to determine whether this program can meet your accommodation needs.
