University of Delaware Institute for Global Studies
Summer 2018: Barcelona, Spain Internship

Program Dates June 04, 2018 - July 28, 2018
This program is closed.

Program Overview Note that participation in this program does NOT fulfill UD’s Discovery Learning Experience for undergraduates which requires that students earn a minimum of three credits as part of a non-traditional academic experience.

Gain professional international business experience by participating in an 8-week internship in Barcelona, Spain! An internship is an unpaid training position that allows students to gain hands-on experience in a real workplace environment. Drawing on their extensive network of partner organizations, Barcelona Study Abroad Experience, will place students in some of Barcelona's most prestigious multinational corporations, small and medium-sized businesses, government bodies, nonprofit organizations, and community service organizations. Every effort will be made to place students in an internship environment that suits their interests and career plans. Students will work at their internship site during regular business hours Monday-Friday, with weekends free.

Students will earn one UD credit by enrolling in UNIV 362, Experiential Learning. Internships are available in a variety of fields including international business, accounting, marketing, fashion, communications, hospitality and tourism, theatre, journalism, government and politics, culinary arts, event planning, animation, photography, public relations and many more. Working one-on-one with a staff member in UD's Career Services Center via pre-departure meetings, and in regular email exchange while abroad, students complete academic assignments tailored to the particular tasks and demands of their internship. A full-time, on-site Barcelona SAE staff member will serve as the students’ contact while in Barcelona and assist with any problems or questions that may arise.

The Program Fee includes an orientation program in Barcelona, airport pick-up, two weeks of an intensive Spanish language course, cultural activities, career coaching, metro pass, medical insurance and housing in shared furnished apartments with kitchen facilities. Students are responsible for their own meals and for getting a cell phone.

The Program Fee does NOT include airfare or ground transportation to meet the group in Barcelona. The program officially begins when students arrive in Barcelona. Students will receive detailed travel instructions after acceptance, explaining how and where to purchase their plane ticket. See the Cost section below for estimate airfare. For this program, students will be given recommended flight itineraries for traveling together.
