University of Delaware Institute for Global Studies
Winter 2022: *Virtual International Internship - Engineering

Program Dates January 03, 2022 - February 05, 2022
This program has been cancelled.

Program Overview Students must attend ONE of the Orientation Meetings.

Once you have completed the online application, students are required to e-mail Jennie Saxe, the following:
  1. Resume (please attach evidence that your resume has been reviewed by the University Career Services Center)
  2. University transcript (unofficial transcript is accepted)
  3. One-page cover letter addressed to a non-specific potential employer describing your skill sets and type of work placement that meets your interest. The letter must be thoroughly proof-read and error free.

The faculty director will contact you to schedule an interview. As part of the interview process, the faculty director will assess your preparedness with using various questions, including the following:

Gain professional business experience by participating in an international 4-week project-based virtual internship program. The internship is an unpaid training position that allows students to gain experience in a workplace environment. Students will work in teams of 3-6 students on a project for a non-profit or a for-profit organization based in one of the following locations: Sydney, Australia; Auckland, New Zealand; Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, or Dublin Ireland.

Drawing on their extensive network of partner organizations, our provider, Global Academic Ventures (GAV), will place students in some of the most prestigious multinational corporations, small and medium-sized businesses, government bodies, nonprofit organizations and community service organizations. Every effort will be made to place students in an internship environment that suits their interests and future career plans. Students will meet periodically in real time with their internship supervisors to receive assignments and feedback, and work on their own and in groups on their assigned projects.

This internship study abroad program features a two-day orientation program, followed by a four-week unpaid internship. Students will earn three UD credits for the internship experience by enrolling in EGGG International Engineering Internship taught online. The class will meet 3-4 times online with the instructor prior to departure focused on developing additional consulting-related skills that are relevant to the projects assigned. In addition, GAV will provide a live group orientation in December There will also be additional regular check-ins with the faculty director during the program to align on project progress.

The Program Fee includes placement in a major-appropriate internship based on the student’s qualifications, experience, and interest; an online orientation in December, and ongoing academic support by the faculty member during the course of the internship experience.

The Program Fee does not include UD winter session tuition; see costs below. In addition, participants are responsible for maintaining reliable internet connections and for being available for periodic meetings with their supervisors. Given the time differences, these meetings for Pacific locations will likely be in the evenings (on the U.S East Coast), or in the mornings for those interning with a Dublin-based organization.

Acceptance and Scholarship Decisions Announced October 6.
