Traveling and studying abroad during a global pandemic poses new challenges and requires accepting a higher level of uncertainty than in the past. Students who choose to study abroad at this time must be prepared to adapt to the evolving situation and must take responsibility to act in accordance with the rules, regulations, and recommendations of UD, their program leadership, and legal authorities of their home and host country. Due to the rapidly changing and unpredictable global and local response to COVID-19, these rules, regulations and recommendations are subject to change at any time.

The University will continue to monitor the ongoing situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) as we approach the departure date for this program. Please reach out to your program coordinator or faculty director with questions and continue to monitor the UD coronavirus webpage for updates. If UD decides to cancel a study abroad program, we will communicate directly with affected students.

Gain professional business experience in Sydney, Australia by participating in an 4-week project-based internship program. The internship is an unpaid training position that allows students to gain hands-on experience in a workplace environment. Students will work in teams of 4-6 students on a project for a non-profit or a for-profit organization based in Sydney, Australia.

Drawing on their extensive network of partner organizations, our provider, Global Academic Ventures (GAV), will place students in some of the most prestigious multinational corporations, small and medium-sized businesses, government bodies, nonprofit organizations and community service organizations. Every effort will be made to place students in an internship environment that suits their interests and future career plans. Students will work at their internship site 9-5:30 Monday-Thursday.

This study abroad program features a two-day orientation program, followed by a four-week unpaid consulting projects engagement. Students will earn three UD credits for the experience by enrolling in BUAD364, Business Administration in Practice. Class meetings will be held on a regular basis during the program to align on project progress as well as focus on developing additional consulting-related skills that are relevant to the projects assigned.

A full-time, on-site GAV staff member will serve as the students’ on-site contact in Sydney and assist with any problems or questions that may arise.

Students will share accommodation in each location with students from UD and/or other U.S. institutions; limited internet is available. From their accommodation, students will be able to take public transportation to their internship placements. Optional excursions are available on the weekends and may be purchased for an additional fee.

The program fee includes shared housing for the duration of the program, international health insurance, transportation to/from the local airport at designated times, breakfast during program orientation, a local group excursion during orientation, a walking tour of Sydney, a welcome lunch, and farewell dinner. The program fee will also include a start-up transportation pass with AUD $40 of credit.

The program fee does not include airfare; students are responsible for ALL flight arrangements and for arriving in Sydney within the designated time window. In addition, participants are responsible for obtaining the working holiday visa required to work in Australia and should budget approximately $450 for this expense. In addition, students will be responsible for reloading the transportation pass, all breakfasts and meals not included in the program fee, and all other personal expenses.

Note: Program acceptance will be competitive and is restricted to Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors currently enrolled in an Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics undergraduate major.

ACCESSIBILITY: Participants with disabilities should know that accessibility and accommodation in some program locations may differ from the United States. Transit systems and legacy building construction practices may not meet U.S. accessibility standards, and alternative access to public transportation, buildings, or public sites cannot be guaranteed. But UD students with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to study abroad. Review these questions with the Office of Disability Support Services to determine whether this program can meet your accommodation needs.

Courses: Students must enroll in all credit-bearing courses for a grade. Only the UNIV (zero credit) course may be taken pass/fail. Audit registration is not permitted on UD Travel Study. Please refer to the University Catalog to verify requirements and prerequisites. Honors credit may be available. Check with the faculty director and the Honors program for approval (check before departure). All students must enroll in at least 3 credits, as well as the 0-credit UNIV course.
