All applicants must have a valid passport by the program’s application deadline. Your passport’s expiration date must be more than six months after the program ends. If you do not have a current passport, apply through the U.S. State Department. It takes an average of 10-13 weeks (3-4 months) to process a passport.

Traveling and studying abroad during a global pandemic poses new challenges and requires accepting a higher level of uncertainty than in the past. Students who choose to study abroad at this time must be prepared to adapt to the evolving situation and must take responsibility to act in accordance with the rules, regulations, and recommendations of UD, their program leadership, and legal authorities of their home and host country. Due to the rapidly changing and unpredictable global and local response to COVID-19, these rules, regulations and recommendations are subject to change at any time.

Complete your second Early Childhood Education student teaching in Seville, Spain, a beautiful city in the Andalusia region of Spain famous for intricate tile work, old world charm and flamenco dancing. While completing your 12-week student teaching placement, you’ll be surrounded by historical landmarks including Alcázar castle, the Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza and the Gothic Seville Cathedral.

Student teaching takes place at Sevilla International College San Francisco de Paula in Sevilla, Spain. San Francisco de Paula’s mission is to provide education based on respect, work and an independent ideology that contributes to happiness, culture, innovation and responsible socio-economic progress. This high-quality educational institutional is set apart by unique programs for social and emotional development, early exposure to multiple languages, international respect and tolerance, and academic quality compared to global standards. Set in a beautiful facility with welcoming staff, the collaborative environment encourages all to participate in the educational community. All students are enrolled in a college preparatory program through an American-based curriculum that is designed to respond to the individual needs of all students. The school is accredited by Advanc-ED International Agency, which oversees quality standards in more than 30,000 schools and centers world-wide. All students learn and interact in several languages starting in preschool. However, all instruction given by University of Delaware students will be in English.

Classroom placements may range from pre-kindergarten through second grade, depending on students' needs for certification. Students will participate in the teaching hours and responsibilities of the primary classroom teacher. They will also be assigned an on-site clinical educator and will be supervised by a University of Delaware field instructor via electronic conferencing and video observations, although no University faculty or staff will accompany the students. School staff will be available to assist with any problems that may arise at the school.

This program is a 12-week, full-day student teaching experience. Starting January 1, 2021, US citizens will have to apply for an ETIAS prior to the start of the program. Students wishing to remain in Spain or the European Union for more than 90 days must apply for and obtain the appropriate visa on their own before departure.


Note: Students are required to be present on the Newark campus to attend classes during the week prior to departure and for one day at the end of UD's semester and are responsible for all necessary lodging and transportation arrangements.

The Program Fee includes transfers from the airport in Seville, international health insurance, as well as housing to be shared with at least one other University of Delaware student OR a student from another program. Meals for six days per week are also included.

The program officially begins when students arrive in Seville. Students will receive detailed travel instructions after acceptance, explaining and how and where to purchase their plane ticket. See the Cost section below for estimated airfare.

The Center for Global Programs and Services (CGPS) cooperates with the College of Education and Human Development on the administration of this program.

ACCESSIBILITY: Students with disabilities are welcomed and encouraged to study abroad, but should be aware that accessibility and accommodation in some program locations may differ from the United States. Transit systems and legacy building construction practices may not meet U.S. accessibility standards, and alternative access to public transportation, buildings, or public sites cannot be guaranteed. Review these questions with the Office of Disability Support Services to determine whether this program can meet your accommodation needs.

Courses: All students must enroll in the 0-credit course UNIV 550 (placeholder for this travel study experience) and UNIV 372 (Discovery Learning marker).

When and how do I pay?
If you are offered acceptance to the program, you will have 3 days to withdraw without financial penalty. After the 3 days have passed, you will be officially accepted to the program, and IGS will post the full Program Fee and Tuition/Fees to your UD student account.

• An initial payment of $1000.00 will be due in mid-October.
• The balance of the Program Fee and Tuition/Fees will be due in early January.
• Payments are submitted through My Finances in UDSIS.
• All charges, once posted to your account, are considered non-refundable.
